⁉️ Where do Neelagiri Kaduva Hide, during Daytime,
๐ Without People Seeing it,
➖ Especially in a Densely Populated Area like Above,
as Dijo Thomas has Claimed that a Small Population of Neelagiri Tigers Exists there ??
๐ This is one of the Secret HIDING PLACES of Neelagiri Tiger - Neelagiri Kaduva in the Villages of Kunnamkulam ➖ Engandiyoor ➖ Aluva Migratory Belt of Thrissur district, where a small population of 3 to 6 Neelagiri Kaduvas ( which is as Big as Tiger)
➖ Live, Hunt Dogs, Hide during Daytime, Regularly Migrate, Breed etc.
{Kavu are traditional Sacred Groves or Small Forests maintained by an individual house or Temple in Kerala. It will be Typically few acres with plenty of rare plants & trees, especially medicinal trees. [Pics - u can see a typical Kavu]
They are believed to be the homes of mythical Nagas, the Serpent Gods, which looks like snakes, with glittering colors, but which you cannot see with your eyes. [Interestingly, anywhere in Kerala you will come across people claiming to have seen Naga - and all those accounts ends with the Naga disappearing into thin air] !!
๐ People rarely enter Kavu, mostly due to FEAR OF NAGAS.
Many Species of Fauna including Snakes, Foxes, Jackals, Mongoose, Palm Civets etc. find a safe shelter in it.
➖ But with the increase in population, many KAVU S ARE BEING DESTROYED, as in the present instance.
As a Kavu-like 1 acre of land in Engandiyoor, near this small Kavu was cleared by the owner, Neelagiri Tiger is no longer using it.

๐ Scientists from KFRI (Kerala Forest Research Institute), a Government Organisation Tasked with the research of Forests; Studied These Reports Many Times Over the Years ;
➖ But were Unable to Find Out,
To what Animal those Pug Marks belonged to !!

๐ Any child in Thrissur Coastal Belt knows Neelagiri Kaduva by the local name
๐ "KATTAN PULI",
( Puli means Leopard in Malayalam) because their Grandmas have Frightened Them that Kattan Puli will come & take them away; if they are too Naughty.
✅. Many very old people knew what KATTAN PULI is; but most of the present generation came to know that an animal the SIZE of Tiger is SHARING the beautiful Landscape with them, SECRETLY;
➖ ONLY AFTER NEWS REPORTS came about it After the SECOND DISCOVERY of Neelagiri Kaduva by Dijo Thomas in 2016 in Kanjani.
๐. Neelagiri Kaduva lives in the Coastal-Belt of Thrissur, from Kunnamkulam to Triprayar, but occasionally reaches as far as Aluwa.
It was sighted near UC college by a few people [I confirmed it] 3 years before. Its footprints [as big as tigers] were seen in a house nearby.
❌. With the expansion of CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES & DESTRUCTION OF KAVU, FARMLANDS & SMALL FORESTED LANDS,
๐ the LAST FEW NEELAGIRI KADUVAS IN THE WORLD; MAY BECOME EXTINCT FROM THIS PLACE.
๐ I was in Thrissur for about 2 years 2016-17, Doing FIELD RESEARCH, CONSERVING & CREATING AWARENESS about Neelagiri Kaduva, with the PARTICIPATION & SUPPORT OF LOCAL PEOPLE❗
